I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.

His name is Michael Crist.

My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

But I noticed him.

I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.

Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.

Because he’s finally noticed me.

Michael

Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.

My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.

Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.

In my city.

Unprotected.

The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.

We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

HOW DOES PENELOPE DOUGLAS DO IT? Her books are so addicting and so dark and so twisted and I love them SO FREAKING MUCHHHH. And Corrupt topped them all.

Rika has always been the good girl who does what she's told. But secretly, she's wanted to lash out, take a walk on the wild side. Which includes finally giving in to her attraction to Michael, the older brother of her ex-boyfriend. Michael is terrifying, yet he makes Rika feel so alive. After one night in high school that changed all of their lives, though, Rika doesn't know where she stands with Michael. Now, Rika is in college and finds her life entwined with Michael's. She knows she should be scared. But she's not.

Wow, this book. It was so dark and twisted, but I absolutely loved it. In the beginning, you have no idea what had happened on that one night a few years ago. Instead, we're told the story in alternating story lines between the past and the present, so we see how Rika is currently treated by Michael and his friends in the present and then get some glimpses as to why that is throughout the past until it's finally revealed what happened later on in the book. There was so much suspense in this book and I thought I was going to have a heart attack at the end. What was going to happen to these characters? Who could they all really trust?

Now let's get to the real reason I loved this book. It was HOT. Seriously, the chemistry between Rika and Michael was through the roof and I have no idea how they resisted each other for so long. They were constantly teasing each other and I was just DYING for something to happen between them. And when it did? Whew. You're going to seriously need to cool yourself off after reading this book. I was obsessed with the two of them and ate up every moment they were together. And did I mention how much I loved Michael's friends Will and Kai? And how excited I am that Kai gets book two?? I cannot wait!

Yet again, Penelope Douglas delivers an angsty, dark romance that swallowed me up and wouldn't let me go. I had to read every page of this book and didn't want to put it down. I already miss these characters and their world and need the second book now!
